Arnold Goron

Born in 1966 in Paris, Arnold Goron lives and works in Paris. He graduated from (ESAG) School of Design, Graphic Design and Interior Architecture.

After working as an art director in graphic design for 15 years, Goron took up sculpture again. His sculptures and installations are predominantly made of ceramic, earthen- and stoneware. He has shown his work at Gallery Henriette Gomès and Gallery la Périphérie in France and has been an artist-in-residence at the Clews Center for the Arts Chateau de la Napoule in France. Since 2006 he has been making window displays, creating sculptures and installations, for fashion designer Isabel Marant and also for the brand Levi's. Next to his activities as an artist he also works as an interior designer and makes hand made furniture and lighting.

His ceramic objects are very sculptural. He makes use of the suppleness of the material, shaping the rounding’s, whereas at the same time he carves the clay as if it were stone, a tender, soft stone.

“I like abstract sculpture for its capacity to create a whole universe through particular juxtaposed shapes. My world is organic and abstract. Abstract even if I often start from a real object. Then, I bend it until it becomes unrecognizable.”

The abstraction of his pieces brings about sensations or inner feelings that may be conceived as simple, instinctive or natural, since they are not comparable to reality.

“Touch, caress, feel my sculptures. Nothing is more frustrating than not to be allowed to touch a sculpture. How to imagine its weight, its heat, its softness, its roughness without placing your hand on it? Hands make sculptures. Another hand is needed to meet with a sculpture. Twenty years ago, I lied down for a while in a Henry Moore sculpture, enjoying its curves, my step-father keeping watch over the guard. Simply incredible!”
